Overview

  • The first to offer this sea kayak tour Fergs has been taking guests to the island for over 25 years. 
  • A full day 6-7 hour tour from Fergs Kayak’s Okahu Bay Base to Rangitoto Island, including a guided hike to the summit to catch the sunset and then paddle back under the stars towards the sparkling city lights.

  • Kayaking to Rangitoto requires a moderate degree of fitness and there is a 2.5 km walk up to an elevation of 270 m involved.



What to bring?

  • Please bring with you plenty of water and food to sustain you for the hike and return kayak trip e.g. sandwiches or packed lunch and energy snacks. Note - water supply on the island is not suitable for drinking.
  • Clothing suitable for kayaking is required, including shorts, sports/active wear, t-shirt, extra warm top, leggings (particularly in winter). Please do not wear denim or heavy long pants. Lightweight, quick drying hiking wear is ok.

  • We-are committed to meeting Biosecurity standards for visiting pest-free islands in the Hauraki Gulf to protect our native wildlife and plants.
  • Prepare-for your trip by being alert for stowaways - such as Argentine ants, plague/rainbow skinks, mice, rats and weed or crop seeds in the soles of shoes. 
  • Please make sure all food is packed and sealed in plastic bags or containers with lid. There must be no opportunity for any unwanted pests to access the
  • container in transit.
  • Ensure all footwear and gear is clean and free of soil and seeds.
  • Thoroughly check any camping or overnight gear for stowaways. Gear that has been stored
  • away with food scraps or used wrappers is high risk. 
  • Seal up your gear/food as soon as you have finished packing and leave them closed until you reach your destination. 
  • Without your co-operation your trip may not be able to take place, so if you have any doubts or questions about Biosecurity, please ask us.

  • All kayak tours are subject to favourable weather and sea conditions. If a tour is cancelled due to poor weather and/or sea conditions, you will be given the option
  • of an alternative tour date or full refund.
