Overview

What will I see?

Where do we even begin? Aside from the spectacular views, which we won’t even attempt to describe, you’ll get to traverse right over the mighty Mt Solitary, leaving the day-trippers behind and venturing into the deep wilderness. Over the course of the three days you’ll be conquering multiple mountains, crossing cascading waterfalls, and sleeping beside tranquil rivers; wild swimming anyone?

Itinerary Summary

  • Day 1: Depart Sydney, Katoomba to Ruined Castle | 8km (+2km optional afternoon walk)
  • Day 2: Ruined Castle to Jamison Creek | 13km
  • Day 3: Jamison Creek to Katoomba via Federal Pass, return to Sydney | 11km

On Day 3, we will ride out of the valley in style on the World's Steepest Railway. It's a dramatic, and less physical end to the tour. If you have any concerns about this, you can also choose to hike out of the valley via the Fuber Stairs (45 mins approx).

What do I need?

  • Not much to be honest. We’re pretty proud of the all-inclusive nature of our tours, and all you really need is a decent pair of walking shoes and some clothing.
  • We don’t want you forking out $100’s for high-tech gear, which is why we provide all the life-saving essentials.
  • We also have a series of hire gear available, if you’d like to have the best of the best!

What fitness level do I need?

  • Being our moderate level walk, you’ll need a moderate level of fitness – go figure! The most challenging part of the walk is the climb up and over Mt Solitary on day two, and the ascent from the valley on day three.
  • Both these climbs will be with a full pack, of around 10-14kg. But don’t worry, we’ll be taking it nice and slow, so don’t think you need superhuman strength!

We highly recommend some pre-trip training, which will not only make your experience better but is also a great chance to just get fit and healthy.

In order to provide you with the best ‘pre-trip’ training, we consulted one of Sydney’s leading Personal Trainers, to develop a custom program specifically targeting the key muscles and fitness requirements for this hike. It’s a combination of both HITT and strength training and will have you well on your way to success!

The training program is included in all tour bookings!
