From Jurgen

At the age of 12, my dad had lent me a "Levis-jeans" promo snowboard for that winter, with old ski boots. That winter, I found out, what is snowboarding, and how does it works. It all happened in the backyard of our house.

I fell in love with snowboarding. It had something magical. At the age of 18, I knew snowboarding would be my focus and that I would live my life accordingly. Since the age of 20, I spent every winter season on the board in various areas around the world.

In addition to snowboarding with friends, I completed all the courses and exams to the state-certified snowboard instructor and snowboard guide.

Since 2012, Zillertal (in Tyrol) is my home base; however, I lead unique tours around the world.

I wish everyone an accident-free shredding, fun, and lasting memories with friends on the mountain. And most of all POWDER ::)))

About Greenland

  • Greenland is a massive island and autonomous Danish territory between the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans.
  • Much of its land surface is covered in ice.
  • Most of its small population lives along the ice-free, fjord-lined coast, particularly in the southwest.
  • Its northerly position, largely above the Arctic Circle, results in natural phenomena such as summer’s midnight sun and winter’s Northern Lights.
  • Greenland is in the top destination for skiers, snowboarders and splitboarders - such as for sailers.
  • This is a highly recommended destination for those who seek freedom with a ski or snowboard boots on their feet.

Difficulty

  • On the Arctic trips, we daily run guided splitboard tours as our primary objective.
  • We find our tours on mountain ranges in the fjord systems, rising from the shore or mountains on islands.
  • Tours usually range from 700-1400 vertical uphill meters per day. You should be in physical condition for that ascents to fully enjoy the runs.
  • Due to the start at sea level, the touring feels more comfortable in terms of physical condition.
  • Level 2-3
  • You need to be able to handle your splitboard gear, have physical condition for 700-1400 meters uphill per day, and ready to descent in all conditions up to 38 degrees at key passages.
  • Please write me and ask if not sure what is your levels.

Comrades: The Vessel

  • After many lands- and sea-based splitboard missions and expeditions in the Arctic North, it's about time to upgrade.
  • After being in the right place, the right time, and meet with the right people - the 65 years old fishing Vessel named Comrades finally ready to be upgraded.
  • She will be custom-designed, converted, and outfitted to an expedition vessel, built for splitboard missions and ski touring trips in the Northern Arctic Regions.
  • Comrades were built in 1958 as a fishing vessel, and it is one of the last ones remaining in this shape.
  • The 17 meters hull is made of heavy red larch planks on massive sawn oak frames. She is in extraordinary condition.
  • All her life she has been cruising and fishing in North Atlantic waters around Shetland.

Comrades Photos

  • Comrades has been outfitted with modern technical instruments and ready to serve as a floating home base for cruises and expeditions in the Arctic coastal mountains.
  • The fishing equipment and the storage has been totally removed, and it is absolutely ready to be outfitted with sea kayaks, wooden sauna, five cabins, hot tub, crew space, BBQ place, open space, lounge, kitchen, saloon, etc.

How Does it Work?

  • A splitboard is basically a standard snowboard that divides into two halves.
  • These separated parts become skis for trekking uphill or touring.
  • As skins are attached to the base of the skis, you can move forward smoothly.
  • Once you reaches the top of the hill, slopes, or mountain, you remove the skins.
  • You can easily attach the two skis to each other again, and it transforms back into a snowboard ( or splitboard).

The Freedom of Splitboarding

  • If you're a snowboarder desire to explore the unknown freedom with nothing but human-power, splitboarding is how you'll do it.
  • With splitboards, you can track the fresh snow - as a reward for your effort; that wasn't possible a couple of years back.
  • All you need is a professional guide and the right gear (take care of safety equipment too).
  • Spice it with some energy, courage, and a bunch of great friends - and you are ready to conquer beyond the groomed, monotonous slopes.
  • In the past, if you wanted to ride the deep snow, you had to use snowshoes to travel uphill.
  • However, skiers climbed much more quickly, used far less energy, doing more runs.
  • That's how the idea of splitboard was born. Since its invention, the playing field has no boundaries anymore.

Splitboard Rental

  • Bring your splitboard gear, or rent out one of the sponsor's one.
  • It is possible to leave your board at home to take sport luggage only with you. In that case, contact me after booking.

Insurance

  • Insurance is mandatory for this tour.
  • The price doesn't cover it; we ask you to take care of your insurance.
  • Eight weeks before the departure of your trip, you need to provide information about your insurance to Jürgen.
  • Make sure that your insurance package also covers air rescue service for ski accidents in open terrain. (Alpenverein, DAV, usw… )
